The Open Source Cyber Cafe

The Cyber Cafe is an innovative way to expose organizations in the nonprofit community to the wonders of open source software. The Cafe is nothing more than a traveling booth that attends key national nonprofit technology and management conferences. It is equipped with networked laptops connected to the Internet and loaded with open source software. By offering a central place for conference attendees to check email, surf the Net, or print a document, the Cafe provides a free place for decision makers in the nonprofit community to explore Linux and other open source software; most for the first time. The Cafe's first stop was the Circuit Rider's Roundup, in Orlando, FL in April 2002. See pictures and comments from Roundup attendees. Since then it's been to numerous nonprofit technology conferences, including other NTEN conferences (see the pictures).

The NOSI Cafe needs new laptops! If you have any ideas on how to get some more updated laptops, so we can bring the cafe to more places, please drop a line to info AT nosi DOT net.

NOSI Cafe Frog Hop To Atlanta

Currently, I do a lot of volunteer web design, graphic design and online newsletter design & editing for a community collaborative which consist of over 60 partners. As well as running my small home-based design business doing freelance work. I am very attached to this collaborative and fully support their mission and goals. Many of the partnering organizations in the collaborative have not even heard of "open-source" and its advantages. I tried to shed some light on OSS by publishing an informative article from Techsoup in the collaborative newsletter. Very little effect...But then again I have never conducted a survey as a follow-up to see who is now using OSS and their success stories. Any suggestions on how I can conduct an on-line survey...questions to ask to raise the other brow about OSS??

Additionally, I love the NOSI Cafe!! How soon will you travel to Atlanta, Gerogia? How much will it cost me to get the Cafe to be a part of a small intern fair hosted at a state university where non profit collaborative partners will try to secure an intern?

And last...

As mentioned before, I do work for a community collaborative(http://www.affconnection.org). And one job is to design and publish their on-line newsletter. I share technology related articles in a section of the newsletter called "Tech Scoop". If you have any NOSI Cafe or OSS news/events you would like for me to share, please send your articles to editor@affconnection.org.

Hey...Thanks for the time :) Below is my contribution to NOSI
